I do not quite like the map format, but if you're using paper maps as a main or backup for travel, this sturdy (should be highly water and food resistant) publication is nearly indispensable, both for locating sites of interest in the countryside and for details in tourist-intensive and urban areas. The close-in map for the Bay of Islands area provides the road names that make navigation easier; same with western metro Auckland, where you can get lost in the suburban road net trying to find Piha beach. I also found it reliable in the Christchurch area.The numerous symbols do require occasional checking of the key page. Maps such as the AA North and South Island maps are helpful for getting the bigger picture. The photo, of a map that almost requires a magnifying glass, show how to get to some of the best coastal scenery.

Solid, laminated construction, which is important because you will be using it quite often. I completely travelled the entire North and South islands and put over 4000 miles on a rental car and this helped to keep me on track and get me out of a few jams. It is very well organized in that it has pieces of the North Island followed by pieces of the South Island where it is arranged like LEFT, RIGHT, move down a little, LEFT, RIGHT, move down a little and so on... Then, after all of those maps, it has blown up maps of the major cities organized in the same manner from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island.

Ordered and received this week, 11/2018. You actually receive a newer edition than what is currently pictured. A listing of all the visitors centers is provided also.I will update review after having a chance to use the maps.

The book of maps of New Zealand is great and detailed. The problem is, it was said to be a 2016 edition and it was a 2001 edition. There have been significant changes since the big earthquakes, so it is not accurate anymore.

Just return from 2 weeks in New Zealand south island. Drove exactly 2600km. Along with Google maps (off line). I did not have in car GPS and my IPhone was locked out. Great detail to travel around NZ. My only wish was it had more city maps covering a larger portion of cities and towns. Highly recommended with a basic GPS.

This guide has been very helpful in planning our trip, but until we actually use it in NZ, I can't tell how accurate and easy to use it is. I just feel more assured having this as a back up along with our GPS.

I LOVE IT! It's a Mapsco for NZ...PLUS PLUS! Info on all the features, areas, overall maps. city maps...all marked w symbols that show in total usable detail everything you could possibly want. An absolute must for anyone who wants to do anything except all the usual "tourist" spots, and even if u do!!!

Great road atlas for New Zealand. Very handy for our recent two week driving trip. Many parts of NZ do not have cell service, so you can't really rely on the internet for directions.
