OK! While no one can learn another language in 10 minutes a day, this series of book WILL give the user a good platform to be able to enjoy a holiday in a country where they don't speak the language. It gave me the ability to comfortably say pleasantries like "please, thank you, no-thank you etc." I was able to order from a menu with surprising ease and could ask simple questions like "Where is the toilet?" VERY easy to use and the stickers that you put all over things (remove easily!) puts the words in front of your face and you learn the names without any REAL effort. This is a great series of books. I have used them in German, Italian and French. I have also seen them being used in Venice, Italy by Italians to learn Asian. I have used them to learn some Russian too...boy that's not easy! This book helps for sure! I have even purchased them as gifts for high school students...they really DO help!

This book is nicely laid out and I think would be useful for basic communication. Like so many language courses that rely on repetition because they don't really want to teach you grammar, the student is stuck memorizing tons of stuff without being shown the patterns on which the language is based. This means you have to absorb those rules and patterns very slowly - when in reality (despite what all the amazing language programs want to tell you!) adults do NOT learn languages the same way children do - our aural recall is not as good as theirs, and we learn much better by learning patterns.Also the CD was horribly disappointing - I expected it would have the same lessons as the book, but instead it is just an alphabetical list of words. This would be great for review once you have finished the course, but it is of no help at all to learn the spoken words at the same pace as the written lessons in the book.

I am trying to learn Italian for what will hopefully be a trip my family and I will be taking to Italy next year. As I was looking for materials to self teach myself I came across a review from someone else who suggested this workbook because it had been used in a college course for a foreign language. I decided to order it and give it a try. I haven't had too much time to really work on learning my new language, but the several sections that I've done so far have really helped me learn a few of the basics. I think the stickers to use around the house and office have really helped a lot! The CD-ROM that comes with the workbook is also beneficial as far as listening to how things should be pronounced. I really like that the material learned so far I think will be valuable on a trip to a foreign country, not just how to speak the language, but actual stuff you need to know when traveling. I didn't want to pay too much for self teaching materials because if that were the case I would have signed to take a course at my local college. This was inexpensive yet useful, just what I was looking for.

Cool book, I wish it was really separated what is that to do for 10 min today, tomorrow and so on.. I just have to choose where to stop, so I dont actually spend only 10 min, and skip many days... I was looking for something that is kind of separated WHAT IS THAT TO DO EVERY DAY. if it a matter of myself separating what to do, then, ANY book can be 10 min a day.

This "Italian in 10 minutes a day" guide with CD-ROM is a very useful tool for the motivated learner looking to pick up some Italian for, say, a visit to Rome. It works especially well for students who are visually oriented.The book takes the student through a series of lessons and exercises to build a basic vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structure for reading and speaking Italian. The simplified pronunciation in the book and the CD-ROM should enable the student to sound out basic words and phrases. Recommended.

I used this book when I was first learning Italian and now my son (10 years old) and wife are using it. It's an easy entry point into the language because of the repetition it encourages and because of the many pictures (drawings) it contains. The stickers and cards are helpful, too. The CD isn't great, but my son enjoys playing with it and it reinforces concepts explored in the book. Travelers won't find a lot of the words and phrases very helpful, so if you're a traveler looking to get up to speed on a language so that you can speak it at a basic level, buy a phrasebook instead. This isn't Rosetta Stone (the price should tell you that), but it's not a bad way to begin learning Italian.

Ciao! Got this book and cd for a class I'm taking on conversational Italian. Comes with pages of flashcards, which are very helpful. Also has stickers to stick on household items to help you remember names, but these fall off of everything, so not so good. They tend to use more formal Italian than my instructor says is currently used in Italia, but overall, I think this book has a lot to offer. Lots of exercises to do. Not sure if this would be enough, without a class, to get you ready for a trip, but is very helpful. Can't say I've used the cd yet.

Italian in 10 minutes a day is a great way to obtain a cursory introduction to the language. I enjoyed the fun way in which to immerse myself in the language through the stickers placed all around my house. The flash cards were the most helpful to learn those basic key words. I studied this book for a couple of weeks before taking a trip to Italy, and it proved to be very helpful. The Italians seemed to love it when I attempted to speak their language, and most of them speak or understand enough English that we never had a problem communicating.
