I think quantum physics, quarks, thermodynamics are very easy for read to toddler. Descriptions are concise and accurate. Pictures contain lots informations for little one to explore. My toddler girl remember it fast and she can read those book herself.

Our now 3.5 year old toddler loves reading and this series is amongst our favourite. We have all 8 of them. We have started his first of this series since he was maybe 2.He loves the illustration, and simple and easy to follow explanation of concept appropriate for very young readers.I think he doesn't necessarily understand all of them yet but it is certainly relatable in many cases.As a mom it is great to see that he looks at the pictures and can recite them even though he doesn't actually know all the words.

I was really excited to see this book released! My one year old loves all books by Ruth Spiro and has been read them since birth. They're a wonderful way to introduce your little ones to STEM topics and the books can grow with them. The explanations are simple yet insightful. The pictures are adorable and help demonstrate the concepts well.

This is a charming and remarkably accurate introduction for younglings and the folks reading to them. Highly recommended

This book was a fantastic read. Being someone who is very new to Magic: The Gathering, I found a lot of very useful information. Seeing as it was written a while ago there is obviously going to be some very dated material, some of which isn't even applicable anymore, but that really only applied to some of the examples given. The core of the book is still on the basics of the game which really haven't changed all that much and offers a lot of strategy options for a new player to learn. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to ANY newcomer to the game.

This book contains great advice for the beginning player, or someone who is considering getting into Magic the Gathering. I have been playing MTG for three years, and didn’t find much of the information particularly useful, but I can see the books value for someone who is still learning the game. Much of the information is still applicable to a certain extent (e.g. each of the game’s colours’ strengths and weaknesses, although this has changed somewhat since the book’s release in 1997).There are good examples of basic card combinations to show the newer player the interaction between different types of cards. The book also does a good job at explaining the attacker-blocker interaction. Particularly useful for the newer player is the chapter on deck themes, which covers some of the basic deck types, suitable cards, and playing strategy of the deck. It is not a comprehensive list of deck types, as new deck types are created as new game mechanics are created and sets are released. However, I think the deck types the book does cover form the foundation of all deck types that came after.The author does a great job at explaining the Banding mechanic, but I think that it is the one game mechanic that requires more examples and instruction to be fully understood. Only being a novice with only a few cards, I wanted to know how to best utilize my time and money to get better at Magic. This book takes you through all the steps necessary to bring your skills up to par. I enjoyed the section about deck building since I had no experience (and no cards). Probably the best part of the book is everything is explained visually. You can see and read each of the cards and how they interact. The only concern I had with the book is that it is set up for Release 5, not the current release. But that's not that big of a deal. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand this game.

The array of artists, musicians, poets, authors, political figures, and other influential people is remarkable. The geographic aspect of the area is also quite interesting. A truly wonderful insight to a very unique place. Highly recommend.

Fanny must also please her husband's political party leaders by appearing in skirts of the correct length and avoiding all substantive talk at state dinners, and she feels duty-bound to reach out to the mother, Sally, who abandoned her at age three to run off to America. My problem was I just didn't like any of the characters, especially "the good wife." I didn't like her subservience, her choice of husband, her willingness to live someone else's life, her lack of backbone when it came to her sister-in-law's manipulative and controlling personality. I didn't like her choices in the end. Nothing liberating about her. She just meanders: giving too much of herself to the selfishness of others, living choices that she hates. There is no striking back that I can see. She just ends up choosing the same small life that she allows to be controlled by others.

Not sure the good wife actually “struck back.” I felt she succumbed to her life and accepted her fate. Not disappointing necessarily, but rather ho-hum. The sister-in-law, Meg, although a secondary character, was by far the most interesting and most developed character. The relationship between Meg and Fanny was a much more enjoyable story line than the husband/wife relationship. Glad the author spent time with Meg and Fanny.

As a reader who has lived long, Fanny's life story brought back memories and how living changes your perspective of any given moment. The youthful bride, young mother, empty nester and all the changes in between. This is a well written observation about how marriages/life evolve as we grow from childhood through adulthood.

In this book, we see the development of a marriage and all the ways a woman can be subordinated to it. But Francesca also shows us the many joys a marriage can bring and helps the reader be better able to weigh the good and bad parts. The tension within Francesca kept me riveted. I found this one of those memorable books that I'll reflect back on.

I enjoyed this book very much. The writing was well done. The author used a lot of descriptive language which made me feel like I was in the story. I could feel the characters as they went through their highs and lows.

It took me a long time to get through this one. Not any action at all or much of a plot sorry to say. More than likely would not read this author again.

I liked the first book I read by this author, but now I can see it is the same storyline. A middle-aged married couple. The man is dominant and the wife has no backbone. Through the entire book, I kept wishing the female character would stand up for herself. Finally, I got so bored I just skimmed through to the end. I won't be buying any more of her books. They are ALL the same. It's a shame, because Buchan is a good writer. She just needs to give her characters some personality.

Robin Hopper! If you really want to learn about pottery you had better read, read and re-read all of Robbin Hoppers books. This is a wonderfully informative book about ceramic formulas and decorating pottery. I have made many of the formulas and I trust his recipes. The best, hands down!

Wow, fantastic book!This is more than a study of the ceramic surface. This book shows the changes that kilns have on clay, I have been trying to explain to my students the variables that can happen in gas kilns with oxidation and reduction. Yes it does have the surface finishes as well, but I am impressed with the 2 chapters on heat and the next on vapors.The glaze colorant section is very comprehensive and the tables of different oxides is very helpful.Making Marks discusses a wide range of surface decoration, plenty to start you of on a new decorating technique.

This set includes the trilogy, along with the extra book titled, "Four". I actually recommend reading Four first. It's the comets set. My 13 year old triplet boys started reading this series in school. They couldn't stop talking about it, so I bought this series for them, and I even read it myself. It's very, very good. The movie is pretty good too; although, the books are a lot more detailed. I highly recommend this series. I would caution for younger readers as the two main characters have some heated moments. Nothing that heavy, but on the line. I wouldn't want my 8 year old reading something like that. I hope this review has been helpful for the parents out there. All in all.. Definitely a great series! A Must Read!

First off, I have to admit that it is difficult for me to rate this book without rating the series as a whole, so that is what I am going to do. It turns out I cannot review this series without comparing it to Hunger Games.There is a great deal of similarity between this series and Hunger Games. Teenage coming-of-age adventure story in a post-apocalyptic dystopian society. I could go further into the premise, but it really does not make much sense outside the context of the book.Again, like Hunger Games, I found the first book gripping and devoured it quickly. The second book did a good job of keeping up that pace.Then the third book comes up, and, once again like Hunger Games, it takes the "Us vs. Them" story and throws in "oh look, These Guys Too! Bet you didn't see THAT coming!" plot hook, and things go off the rails for me. The first two books seem to be building your hope for the characters and the world they live in and the ability for them to make the world better. Then they expand the world, and the third book goes about crushing your hopes of a happy ending.While reading the first two books, I was a little bummed that it would be over in three. By the time I was about a quarter through the third book, I was ready for it to be done. I was looking forward to Four during the first two books. After reading the third, I don't have any real interest in reading Four anymore.The real world does not have happy endings for everyone, but this isn't really about happy endings. It is more about building up these characters to great heights with the implication that they will usher in a new age. Then, it turns out in the end they are a cog in a machine in the end. Important, sure, but used to an end just the same. I would actually rate the first two books at five stars, but the third book is such a letdown that it brings down the whole series for me, and this book is useless without the other two. If you read Hunger Games and loved it, this scratches the same itch. In the end, I didn't hate it, but it lost a lot of luster quickly in the end.

I have to start by saying that watching the Divergent movie made me want to read the book. I really enjoyed the movie and I thought for sure there was more in the book. Movie goers didn’t miss as much as I had hoped.Beatrice is about to take the test that will determine which of the five factions she will go into for the rest of her life. The five factions are: Candor (the honest), Amity (the peaceful), Erudite (the intelligent), Dauntless (the brave) and Abnegation (the selfless). Each of the factions carries out certain job throughout the city. Those without factions do all the dirty work and have no rights in society. Born into Abnegation, everyone thinks she will stay in. On the day of the test, Beatrice learns she is Divergent. Fitting into not just one, but many factions. She chooses Dauntless and is told to keep her Divergent identity secret. In dauntless Beatrice renames herself Tris, and she is tested to determine who she really is. Her failure could leave her factionless. Her testing will reveal that she is divergent if she isn’t careful. Being divergent might just get her killed.I can’t believe how spot on the movie was. I could completely picture the scenes while I read this book. There were only a few details left out of the movie Divergent. This book was really addictive. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I couldn’t stop reading the story. There were a few interactions left out and we get a more in depth look at Tris’ struggle to leave Abnegation and her whole family behind. The development of her relationship to Four made much more sense in the book and he was instrumental in the end. We also get more of an explanation of Tris’ fears and why Four was so different from his peers when he graduated.I really enjoyed the character building, getting to know her friends and her fears. The author is able to draw in the reader right from the start. The location of this story is a dytopian Chicago. I liked the gradual world building in this story. The whole society is cut off from the outside. The idea that people are either of 5 personalities was really problematic for divergents because they have characteristics from more than one. The struggle to pick just one thing for the rest of your life is something a lot of young adults can probably relate to as they make career choices, so this story may feel close to home.
